Many people have concerns that by using this type of insurance, an excuse is being made for speeding when in fact, we all know that mistakes happen. With driving license protection insurance, you can stay mobile. Now if you are a habitual speeder, then that of course is a different story. For this reason, most UK insurance companies offering this type of coverage only covers points from speeding and incidental points and not more serious charges such as drinking and driving or reckless driving.

More and more law enforcement agencies are using what is called a speed camera. This camera is able to snap your photo and determine the speed in which you are traveling. Since some of these cameras will simply take a photo of your car, you will suddenly receive a ticket in the mail rather than be pulled over. Sure, you could purchase a speed camera detector but even then, the camera often outsmarts the detector.

If you already have nine penalty points on your driving license, be sure you provide only true information on your application. Typically, if you tell the truth and do not withhold important information, UK insurance companies will work with you.

If you should get a ticket of some kind covered by the insurance policy, you will need to file a claim. The first claim would require that you contact the insurance company, providing full details about the incident. At that time, the insurance company will advise you on the next steps.

When the claim is accepted, you will need to provide the ticket and any other requested information so that payment can be made. In most cases, for this type of coverage the payment is made directly to you, making you responsible for paying the ticket and any associated fines.

The great thing about this type of insurance policy is that even fleet drivers can be covered, which is a huge benefit for companies that have drivers on the road all day or night for business. Additionally, many of these policies will provide protection if you travel outside the UK. In this case, you need to hang on to any receive you get from your driving infraction. Be sure you know all the requirements of your policy since they will vary from one company to another.

  • Must be 19 or older
  • Have a full driving license valid in the UK (sometimes required to hold this license for a minimum of two years)
  • Resident of the UK
  • Nine or fewer penalty points on the license
  • Authorized driver of the vehicle
