| HEALTH AND MEDICAL INSURANCE
Most people worry about health and medical issues for a number of
reasons. Some of the worry may come from today’s society and
the obvious lack of respect for life. It could be due to concern
over poor genetics, loss of job, age, and so on. Instead of worrying
about how things might be or could have been you can choose a quality
health and medical insurance policy so that if something does happen

If you are interested in purchasing supplemental coverage, you
want to look for a company that offers a UK National Health Service
top up policy. This particular type of policy coverage is known
as an NHS Plan, which means that every member of the family can
be covered under a single policy.
Many people looking at health and medical insurance prefer this
option in that you have the option of getting a private, en-suite
hospital room. The benefits include reduced waiting time to see
a doctor and be treated should you or any member of your family
become ill and be diagnosed with some type of terminal illness
you would receive a large, lump sum. Best of all, you can find
the NHS Plus policy for as little as £5 per week! For all
the benefits you receive in return, the price is just a drop in
the bucket.
Another option for health and medical insurance is a hospital
cash plan. This type of protection coverage fits into every budget
and provides you with cash benefits for a number of situations,
which include:
- Hospitalization
- Recuperation time
- Optical bills
- Dental bills
- Birth and nursing
- Out-patient treatment

There are many different types of health and medical insurance
in the UK. To help educate you on some of your options, we have
provided information below:
Private Insurance
Private health insurance is gaining popularity in the UK as more
and more people are learning the importance of taking care of their
bodies. As mentioned above, the NHS type of coverage is one of
the best currently available but even it has problems. For example,
there is a serious waiting list, meaning that people needing to
be treated have to wait for a long time without getting treatment
when needed.
There are benefits to private insurance once you have a policy
in that you will be given the best possible treatment right away
while offering you versatility and flexibility. For instance, you
will have a choice of several hospitals should you need treatment.
Additionally, if you do need treatment, you can choose time that
works best for your schedule and your family will enjoy flexible
visiting hours to accommodate their schedule.
Individual Insurance
Individual insurance coverage is the perfect option for young
adults without children and students. In addition to the right
coverage, this type of insurance is also affordable. To give you
an idea of what you could expect to find at the age of 25, consider
the following:
- Comprehensive - £37.85
- Mid-Range - £27.94
- Budget - £13.19
- High Excess - £10.49

As you age, these numbers would of course increase but this is
a good guideline to follow. If you want to get other quotes (add

Student Insurance
If you need low-cost health insurance while as a student, you
can purchase an insurance policy specifically designed for this
purpose. Many policies for student insurance will continue coverage
even when you graduate from school. The type of policy to look
for would include one similar to what is listed below:
- Choice of four different deductibles
- High coverage per illness
or injury
- High total protection
- Your choice of doctor and/or hospital
- Payment options

Professional Insurance
For professional health coverage, you want the very best. Let
us say that you are the CEO of a major company. You have the huge
responsibility of taking care of business to keep things going
for you, your family, and your employees. In this type of situation,
becoming ill is simply not an option. As a serious businessperson,
you do not have the time to wait around for treatment or to be
hospitalized.
This is when professional insurance can make a huge difference.
With this type of coverage, you will receive preferential terms
not just for you but also for your family. Best of all, professional
insurance policies are often designed ala carte so you can build
a custom plan that is perfect for your life. You will even find
options on the upper end that let you choose the premium. For this
option, you generally start with a base plan and then start adding
on option coverage items such as therapy, out patient, dental,
worldwide, cash plan, and so on.
To give you an idea of how this option works, you would choose
the premium that you would be comfortable in paying to a maximum
annual limit between £1,000, £3,000 or £5,000.
Then, when you have an eligible claim, you pay 25% of your maximum
limit while the insurance company agrees to pay the remaining 75%.
When the maximum annual limit has been reached, whether for an
individual medical condition or all of them combined, the insurance
company now pays a full 100% of all eligible claims until that
year’s policy expires.
Keep in mind that there are some exclusions relating to professional
insurance. For instance, if you have a medical condition prior
to securing the policy that would not be covered. Additionally,
long-term illness, maternity admission, and maternity or paternity
bonus are not covered. To help you understand each of these add-ons,
we have provided additional information below.
Therapy
This would typically cover physiotherapy, diagnostic testing,
osteopathy, chiropractic, podiatry, chiropody, speech and language,
homeopathy, dietary, and acupuncture, some paying up to £1,000
of the benefits per policy per year for all therapy costs.
Out Patient
For this type of therapy, you would typically have coverage for
consultations, specialists, and diagnostic testing that would include
ultrasound, pathology, and x-rays. Benefits usually cover up to £100
for a basic policy and then of course, more for add-ons.
Dental
This would include general dental care, emergencies, injuries,
serious dental that includes cysts, tumors, etc., and other dental
problems that would include surgery. The amount of coverage starts
at £250 for basic dental and up to £20,000 for dental
injuries.
Worldwide
For worldwide coverage, the policy would handle benefits for overseas
treatment, family assistance, repatriation, and evacuation. For
a good policy covering 21 days, you would have an annual maximum
of £250,000.
Cash Plan
The cash plan coverage covers numerous things such as optical,
GP fees, maternity, paternity, post-hospital recovery, and NHS
prescriptions.
